Re-cased original paper boards, printed paper spine label, uncut/unopened. Light spotting to endpapers. Author's presentation copy. Murray (1786-1851) wrote on a number of scientific topics. The advert leaf at the rear of the volume promotes his 'Remarks on the cultivation of the silk-worm ...', 'Descriptive account of the shower bath ...' and ' An invention for forming a line of communication in shipwreck; and a fire-escape in cases of fire.' He was active in the geology-genesis debate, wrote an anti-slavery pamphlet, and assorted poetry. Murray failed to obtain the Chemistry Chair at King's College, London in 1831.
