Description: [Halifax]: N.P., 1884. 14cm. [2], 7[1]pp, 15 plates. A collection of 69 works ranging in price from £1 10s to £31 10s. Original pictorial printed paper wraps, sewn. Wraps lightly creased; title very lightly browned. The Society was formed in 1875; it grew out of the Halifax Art Union, founded some 30 years earlier. This 1884 catalogue contains significant works by William Henry Stopford, an Irish artist who was Principal of Halifax School of Art, and George Anderson Short, a Northumbrian whose métier was sporting works in oil and watercolour.
