Description: Montreal: printed by Mitchell & Wilson, 1872. [vi], 112 pp, frontis plus occasional other plates, 2 maps. Authors compliments to upper section of title page. 'From the library of James CROLL (1821-1890), Scottish scientist and geologist. He was essentially self-taught with a background in hotel management and insurance. His orthodox scientific career began with an appointment to the Geological Survey of Scotland in 1867, a position he held until 1881. He corresponded with Lyell, Geikie and Darwin; Geikie in particular encouraging him in his researches. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1876 and received an honorary LL.D. from St. Andrews in the same year. The last ten years of his life were dogged by ill-health and he died in Perth in 1890.' Disbound. 20.5 cm x 13.5 cm. Contents lightly age browned with faint vertical crease to centre region.
