Title: The Surface Geology of Ohio. [From the Report of the Geological Survey of Ohio, Vol II].
Description: Columbus: Nevins & Myers, 1874. [ii], 80 pp, folding plates & maps, numerous text illustrations & text tables. 'From the library of James CROLL (1821-1890), Scottish scientist and geologist. He was essentially self-taught with a background in hotel management and insurance. His orthodox scientific career began with an appointment to the Geological Survey of Scotland in 1867, a position he held until 1881. He corresponded with Lyell, Geikie and Darwin; Geikie in particular encouraging him in his researches. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1876 and received an honorary LL.D. from St. Andrews in the same year. The last ten years of his life were dogged by ill-health and he died in Perth in 1890.' Disbound. 23 cm x 15.5 cm. Contents lightly age browned.
