This first printing consists of 3800 standard copies and a limited subscribers' dedication edition. the later were restricted to the Military Melbourne mailing list with a few available to non-subscribers, these were individually dedicated to particular servicemen, in this case Private Brendan Calcutt, of Williamstown, who served with the 14th Battalion and died at the age of 20 years from septicaemia on the 18th December 1915.This narrative is written by one of the original members of the Fourteenth Battalion Edgar Rule. It was first published in 1933 and used a string of aliases to protect men who were still living as well as their relatives. In this revised publication the real names and identities of the men involves are finally recorded.
