Based on family letters accumulated in a mahogany desk over a period of 150 years, this book gives insight into many walks of life, and several parts of the world, during the period 1736-1887. In the latter part of the book something is learnt of early Australia, two of the sons settled there, one being involved in the gold rush at Ballarat and the other doing survey work in the days when Queensland was being opened up.
