ROTH, CEIL. - Iscariot.

Title: Iscariot.
Description: First Edition; Cr. 8vo; pp. 176; bound in original blue cloth, title label on spine, dustjacket chipped and worn on edges, some light foxing to first and last pages, previous owne'rs name on title page, good copy. London; The Mandrake Press; 1929. "Iscariot" is the first novel published by the Mandrake Press, it is an account of betrayal which ended in Aceldama. The Action of Judas in betraying the Master is ascribed to a hopeless, earthly infatuation for Mary of Magdala - and the perfume of her spikenard upon the master is maddening in the betrayer's nostrils at the moment of the Judas kiss. The treatment of religious themes is reverent and the historical setting is convincing.
