Adelaide; Libraries Board of South Australia; 1968. In 1972, Warburton was commissioned to journey westward across Australia from Alice Springs to Perth, in search of new pastoral areas. No good country was found, a one point his party were pinned down through lack of water for 56 days. "If we press on we risk losing our camels and dying of thirst. If we stand still, we shall starve." The party press on, losing many camels, and after 9 months in the desert, reached Roebourne on the north-west coast of Western Australia, over a thousand miles from Perth.
