The three volumes are of the unpublished journal kept by William Scoresby (1789-1857) of his voyages to the Arctic, first in the whaler Resolution and later in the Fame. He expanded the logs of his Arctic voyages into lengthy journals that contain scientific records and social and religious comment as well as detailed descriptions of navigation, whaling and the various landings.
