Between 1691 and 1697 the celebrated Italian globe maker Father Vincenzo Coronelli collected into a volume the gores and other engravings of his terrestrial and celestial globes, from the smallest (two inches in diameter) to the gigantic globe, nearly fifteen feet in diameter, made for King Louis XIV of France. The rare second edition of the Libro dei Globi, here reproduced, was prepared in 1701 as volume X of Coronelli's thirteen-volume Atlante Veneto, and includes the gores of Coronelli's largest pair of engraved globes, three and a half feet in diameter.
