Description: First Edition; Demy 8vo; pp. [iv], 105; [iv], 44; engraved frontispiece ( 3 portraits), six full page wood engravings (including a detailed view of the execution ), bound in a modern half tan calf with yellow cloth boards, raised bands, title label on spine, title lettered in gilt on spine gilt line decoration on spine and boards, very good copy. London; Knight & Lacey; 1824. Thurtell and Hunt were tried for the murder of William Weare, the crime gained a great deal of attention and was the subject of numerous books and stage plays. it is commemorated by the rhyme They cut his throat from ear to ear, His head they battered in, His name was Mr William Were, He lived in Lyons Inn.
