The articles cover the early years of exploration, leading to the decision to form the colony of South Australia. It then looks at the reasons why people emigrated, together with the hardships they faced on the long voyages of the pioneering ships. The later chapters cover early impressions of Adelaide and the development of the town, as well as the spread of settlement into rural South Australia.
