CODMAN, E. A. - A Study In Hospital Efficiency As Demonstrated by the Case Report of the First Five Years of a Private Hospital.

Title: A Study In Hospital Efficiency As Demonstrated by the Case Report of the First Five Years of a Private Hospital.
Description: Special Edition; Med. 8vo; pp. [iv], 180, (2); marbled endpapers, large folding chart in pocket on rear board (index of cases combined with statistical tables), bound in genuine grey-blue leather by Arcata Graphics/Sherwood, title lettered in gilt on spine, raised bands, gilt decoration to spine and boards, all edges gilt, original silk page marker, fine copy. New York; Privately Printed for the Members of The Classics of Medicine Library; 1992. Prepared from the 1916 first edition, the book is a record of the first five years of the Codman Hospital, founded in Boston as a model of the End Result System. The hospital was short-lived; Codman was ridiculed for his reformist ideas; and the End Result System, after having spread to a number of notable hospitals, died out by the 1920's. Yet as a forerunner of modern medical care evaluation, it is a subject worthy of close attention.
