The author has interviewed nearly a hundred ex-RAF Sabre personnel and consulted a wide range of archive sources. The design origins of the Sabre in the USA in 1943 are reviewed, together with Britain's involvement with the sabre, from the secondment of RAF crews to USAF Sabre squadrons, through to trials with the F-86 model in the UK from 1950.
