Description: Original wood engraving, black ink, 98 x 55mm, (c-1940's), signed in plate, fine. Sydney Leon "Syd" Miller 1901-1983, was an Australian comic book writer, artist and illustrator, he contributed to many periodicals, including the Bulletin, Aussie and Smith's Weekly. His comic strip Animalaughs appeared throughout Australia as well as being syndicated in a number of other countries. He carried over the comic theme into the bookplates he designed. William James Mahoney (Will) 1894-1967, vaudevillan and theatre manager, his first performance at the Tivoli theatre in 1938 marked the beginning of seventeen tours of Australasia.
