Author: BISHOP, EDWARDS. Title: McIndoe's Army The Story Of The Guinea Pig Club And Its Indomitable Members.
Description: 8vo; pp. 180; 16 pages of photograph illustrations, bibliography, The Guinea Pigs, index; illustrated stiff wrapper; a fine copy. London, Grub Street, (2004). The Guinea Pig Club was born of the Sunday morning hangover which most of Ward 3 at the East Gristead hospital had earned on the night of July 19th, 1941. At the time none of the men in the hutted ward's black iron beds could have foreseen where their Sunday grogging party would lead them and the movement they started. The objects of the club are to promote good fellowship among, and to maintain contact with, approved frequenters of Queen Victoria Cottage Hospital. In previous time these physically damaged men were hidden from society to protect them, and not depress the public and with them the general war morale.
