Transferred to the Far East in 1941 as a flight commander with 242 Squadron, thence to 453 RAAF, on December he led a flight of Buffalo aircraft to cover the Prince of wales and Repulse. ,Three days later he was dramatically shot down , eventually being evacuated to Java, and then from there to India. This is where his account ends.
