Brisbane, Jacaranda Press, 1961. Very few of our pioneers were able to record their experiences, and to tell their stories with the wit and sympathy that illuminate these pages. His life covers the early days of Aramac; Longreach before the railway came; Barcaldine when it was linked with the districts to the north by Cobb & Co. coach driven by one Tom Nolan; Rockhampton when passengers to Brisbane travelled by boat. He was in Barcaldine during the shearers strike; in Coolgardie at the height of the goldrush; and enlisting in the Bushmen's Contingent for South Africa.
