The Ogam served many purposes magic was surely one of them If by comparison you look at the Hebrew alphabet it was clearly not invented for magical usage. However mysticism was clearly one of it's uses at least as far back as the Medieval Zohar. Not to say the usage in this was the usage then but this has a good discussion of the different books published and un dogmatic. Fine .
