Author: ADAMS,FRANCIS Title: The Genuine Works of Hippocrates Translated from the Greek with a Preliminary Discourse and Annotations Two Volumes
Description: London: Printed For The Sydenham Society, 1849. Hardcover. 8vo. Two Volume set in Original Green ribbed cloth boards with gilt title lettering to spines and with gilt emblem embossed to the front and rear cover of both volumes. There are elaborate scroll designed borders to both volumes and stamped in blind.Yellow endpapers.Half titles present and with 3 plates of surgical and slightly macabre instruments to the rear of volume one and 5 plates to the back of volume 2.It appears that both volumes have been rebacked at some point and had their original spines laid down.Likely done by Westley's of London as their binder's stamp is in place at the bottom edge of the rear pastedown to Volume One.Bindings remain firm with no hinge weakness.Contents remain clean, light spotting only to pre-lims.A very decent set for the collector as his is the last English edition of the Hippocratic writings intended to serve as actual medical instruction. Francis Adams was from Scotland and was a surgeon of Banchory.Vol 1 (x) 466pp + Plates and Volume Two 470pp - 872pp + Plates.8vo First Edition Translated From The Greek [1849]. Very Good .
