This is a Very Good Copy of this book rebacked with new leather spine and with green moroccan title label lettered in gilt to spine.There are 5 raised bands to spine with label to 2nd compartment down spine.New endpapers have been professionally inserted.There are former 'Cripplegate Institute' ink stamps to the copyright page and to the blank rear of the engraved plates and maps.Binding remains tight with no hinge weakness.The large folding map of the Polar Sea Chart has torn and requires repair work doing.The other engraved plates some of which are coloured are in good order and depict various scenes including hunting scenes,sledging,eminent explorers etc.All page edges are in gilt.bevelled edges to boards and with some wear to corners of this volume.The front cover is superbly etched lavishly in gilt and has been well preserved.The second map of the 'Franklin Expedition' is in excellent order.A decent copy then of this uncommon title,certainly one for the collector.Due to the weight of 3.3Kg we are limiting the sale of this copy to the UK Market only.Large 4to 824pp First Edition [1877].
