Two Volumes 8vo 1857 This is a Good Only Copy set in original blind tooled decorative blue cloth witn chipping and fraying to cloth at spine tips and to the spine also,with Vol 2 lettering now missing from the spine of vol 2.Well illustrated throughout with etcings now on steel as opposed to the earlier additions from copper plates.This 3rd Ed has 12 new woodcuts which have been introduced in this greatly improved and revised Third Edition.(xix) + 394pp. + (xv) and 423pp.With occasional foxing to certain leaves,one or two loose plates/pages require re-tipping back in.Their is a decorative gilt device to upper boards and the chipping of the cloth is worse on vol 2 than on vol 1.With half title pages present.This set has been INSCRIBED by the Author in Volume One on the Half Title Page and reads '' Lady Eastlake with very kind regards Feb 27th 1857 '' one assumes this was presented to lady Eastlake by the Author .Elizabeth Rigby later became Lady Eastlake (1809 -1893) she was an artist, art historian and critic, and writer on diverse topics. Lady Eastlake and her husband Sir Charles Eastlake, a well-known painter and art scholar, formed the center of the social group known as the "Eastlake Circle," which included a number of prominent artists and intellectuals. Eastlake was a regular contributor to the Quarterly Review; in this article she reviews a dozen travel narratives written by women.A great addition to any Art History collection particularly with this Scarce Association..
