Author: Jones, Alexander (editor) Dali, Salvador (illustrations) Title: The Jerusalem Bible
Description: New York, Doubleday & Co. 1970, 1970. 1st Edition. 1st Edition. Hard covered in black pebbled leatherette with black pebbled leatherette slipcase, 21 cm x 30 cm (8 1/2 x 11 6/8 inches) with gold gilt lettering and page edges and marbled front and back endpapers. 1340 pp for the Old Testament and 353+ pp for the New Testament with supplements including chronological tables, coloured maps, and 2 sewn-in red ribbon book markers. The Jerusalem Bible, basically a French enterprise attempting to make a more modern translation of the Bible from Hebrew and Greek sources (instead of the Latin Vulgate) into French, was then translated into English by Alexander Jones and a large group of editors including [J.R.R. TOLKIEN] who worked on The Book Of Jonah. No doubt, a personality such as Dali’s could not resist adding his creative imagination to one of Man’s most compelling and enduring subjects. All 32 of Dali’s vivid and flamboyant creations are in colour and ‘hors textes’. The book itself shows some very light wear while the slipcase has a few scuffs, both being in very good condition overall. .
