Author: Bolloré, Gwenn-Aël (Gwenael) Title: L’Agonie de Sainte-Angele (No. 1/110 Printed Editions) in Original Slipcase Signed and Inscribed by Gwenn-aëL Bolloré
Description: Paris, 1948. An exquisitely designed, small (12.5cm x 16.5cm) book of poetry in a marbled, front-rounded slipcase with the book’s cover and page edges ornamented in gilt. Inscribed and signed by the author on the 11th of November, 1948, numbered 1 of 110 and 1 of only 10 printed on Holland van Gelder paper in Paris and signed again by Gwenn-Aël. As an underaged boy, Gwenn-Aël joined the French Resistance and fought with the Kieffer commandos at Normandie. This book of poems was self-published shortly after this experience. As well as writing poetry, Bolloré had multifaceted interests obtaining a doctorate in Oceanography and eventually becoming Director of Editions de la Table Ronde expressing his anti-Gaulliste sentiments. He also wrote several books on his War experience and was a friend and admirer of the writer, poet Blaise Cendrars [Frédéric-Louis Sauser] A Unique volume whose care in design and production one just doesn’t see anymore. This book also contains a pencil drawing on onion paper (perhaps by the author?) of the church reproduced in colour and black and white on the front pages. Very Good to Fine condition, the slipcase shows some wear on the edges and the pages of the book are slightly wavy. Lovely. .
