Originally published in 1932 as "Podnyataya Tselina" in Russia. "Virgin Soil Upturned" is the second offering in Sholokhov's major oeuvre preceded by "And Quiet Flows The Don". This is Frederick Banting's Copy of Sholokhov's Masterpiece with Banting's neatly penned signature gracing the front free endpaper. In 1923, Frederick Grant Banting [1891-1941] won the Nobel for Physiology & Medicine for the discovery [co] of Insulin & in 1965, Mikhail Sholokhov 1905-1984], won the Nobel Prize for Literature; his "And Quiet Flows The Don" Multi-Volume novel considered by many scholars & critics alike as the ultimate post-revolutionary literary work to have been produced in the old Soviet Union. Signed Banting books are rarely seen. Housed in a superb burnt orange custom clamshell case with black leather onlay uniquely designed to reflect the book's dustwrapper illustration.
