"Poet and Fellow of King's College, Cambridge, Shakespeare scholar, known to his friends as Dadie, Rylands attracted the attention of John Maynatd Keynes and Lytton Strachey when he was elected to the Apostles. In July 1924, he began a short tenure at the Hogarth Press as an assistant. In October, 1928, the day after Virginia Woolf gave one of the talks that would become the basis for, A Room Of One's Own, she and Leonard accompanied by Vanessa Bell and Angelica Garnett had lunch with Keynes, Strachey and Rylands in the latters rooms, a lunch exravagantly described in, A Room Of One's Own".
