A very good copy of these rare self published titles. Contemporary half calf over paper covered boards neatly refreshed at the spine, contents clean; several contemporary ownership signatures on the ffe. Gaetano Polidori was a teacher of Italian in London, had been Alfieri's secretary, and is known as the author of tales and educational works and the translator of Milton and Lucan into Italian (1840 and 1841). His oldest son was John William Polidori, a physician to Lord Byron and author of the first vampire story in English, The Vampyre (1819). He published a number of works, including some of his own writings. He also set up a private press at his home in London, where amongst other titles (mostly his own), he printed the first editions of some poems by his grandchildren, Dante Gabriel Rossetti & Christina Rossetti. He also printed an edition of the poem Osteologia, which his father Agostino Ansano Polidori had written in 1763. $677.50. .
