Description: (n. p.): , (n. d.). Ca early 18th C. Black somber [mourning] binding, boards decorated in blind, raised bands to the spine. AEG. Dentelle edges, marbled-paper endpapers. [4], 123 - 158, [1], 84 - 216, 27 - 42, [2 (blank)] pp. 5-7/8" x 3-3/8". Moderate wear to binding, especially to spine edges. Paper age-toned. Bookplate of The Right Hon'ble Barbara Viscountess Longueville [dated 1702]. A VG example. "Barbara Talbot was the second and younger daughter and coheir of Sir John Talbot, of Lacock Abbey in Wiltshire, and his second wife, Barbara, daughter of Sir Henry Slingesby, 1st Baronet of Scriven. She married, 11 July 1689, Henry Yelverton, 15th Baron Grey of Ruthin, who was created Viscount de Longueville 21 April 1690, and they had two sons and five daughters. He died 24 March 1704. She survived him, living to the age of 98, and dying 31 January 1763. Her elder son was created Earl of Sussex 26 September 1717. The Earldom became extinct at the death of the 3rd Earl in 1799. The library of her descendant Henry Weysford Charles Plantagenet Rawdon Hastings, 4th Marquess of Hastings, was sold at auction by Mr Philips of Wheeler Gate, Nottingham on the 29 December 1868."
