Bound in green cloth and one-quarter leather, with dulled gilt titles and decoration to spines. All page ends and endpapers are marbled . This fascinating history is notable for its large collection of more than 500 relevant engravings, and photographs, many of which are full-page. Yet the title is somewhat misleading, as it suggests that these volumes may be picture books. They are not; the text accompaying the illustrations is extensive and authoritative. The final sections of the book treat the Panama Canal, the Louisiana Purchase, Biographical Sketches of Progressive Americans and U. S. Population Statistics. The last section of the book is entitled Our New Possessions; it discusses Cuba, Puerto Rico, Phillipines, Hawaiian Islands, and Guam. Two-volume set, complete. 4to 11" - 13" tall. 1008 pages. U5.
