Rare second edition (1st 1749) of this textbook in which the influential French chemist Macquer (1718-1784) gives the basic principles of chemistry and describes several chemical apparatus and their construction. Illustrated with 4 folding plates: 3 showing chemical apparatus and 1 with chemical symbols. A reprint of the other work of Macquer, "Elemens de chymie pratique" (2 volumes) was also issued in 1751. The 2 works together - in 3 volumes - formed a complete course of practical chemistry for beginners. Our copy - with a label "Tome III" on spine - was probably part of such a set.
