Author: Charles Dupaty 249426, Louis-Auguste Legrand de Laleu 249427 Title: Mémoire justificatif, pour trois hommes condamnés à la roue
Description: de l'imprimerie de P. G. Simon et N. H. Nyon, 1786. Gekartonneerd. Account of a famous case against Charles Bradier, Jean-Baptiste Simare and Nicolas Lardoise, who were falsely accused of having committed theft on a farm and serious violence against the farmer and his wife. The three men were condemned to the wheel. After carefully studying the case, Charles Dupaty, a lawyer at the Parliament of Bordeaux, concluded that the men were innocent and that those responsible were in fact the agents of the constabulary. Revolted by this miscarriage of justice, he anonymously published this "Mémoire justificatif", with the help of a young lawyer Legrand de Laleu. It caused a scandal in the judicial world by calling into question a case that had already been tried. His memoir was condemned by the Parliament of Paris to be lacerated and burned.
