There is a full description of every species, with measurements and details of form, colour, markings and comparison with similiar species. For each species are also given its various names, notes on its habitat, behaviour and habits - feeding, breeding, calls, social habits, migration, enemies - on variation within the species and the points distinguishing principal groups or subspecies. There is a disctribution map for ecery species in the book (except the Swamp Cat). Every species is accurately and beautifully full illustrated - six in line drawings, all others in colour plates. These have been done scpeially for the book by Pierre Dandelot and use the famous Peterson identification sysments, with bars to indicate important characters and explanatory notes opposite each plate. These descriptions, maps and coloured paintings will together make identification - in the zoo or in the wild - quick and easy.
