VERY GOOD) ¶ RARE AND SOUGHT AFTER This German edition of this key work on cybernetics by Norbert Wiener, one of the key proponents of automation, and originator of cybernetics theory. Particularly topical with today's debates on the impact of automation on society, Wiener's book looks at the possible benefits of automation; and means for cooperation between humans and "mechanical brains" (computers). Optimistically, he sees automation as a way to release workers from repetitive work to allow pursuit of creative arts and offers suggestions as to how we can avoid effects that may jeopardise society. Wiener's diagrams include one of a potential 'hearing aid for the totally deaf', prior to the development of the cochlear implant.
