In the Ars Amandi Ovid uses the serious genre of the didactic poem to instruct men (in books 1 and 2) and women (in book 3) in the art of seduction. Ovid invoked the wrath of Emperor Augustus, which also led to his banishment. The poems themselves, however, have been preserved and, in the beautiful translation.
