Author: Forbush, E. H. Title: Birds of Massachusetts and other New England states. [Complete, in three volumes].
Description: Norwood, MA, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, 1925-1929. Three volumes in three. 4to (24.5 x 18.7 cm). 1527 pp. [xxi, 481; l, 461; xlviii, 466]; one portrait, and 93 full-colour plates after Louis Agassiz Fuertes, and many plain plates. Original uniform green cloth with gilt title on the spines and front boards. = A complete set in the rare first edition of this well-illustrated work by the American ornithologist Edward Howe Forbush (1858-1929). Usually it is found in mixed editions, as especially the first volume was printed in rather low numbers. The tissue-guarded portrait in the third volume is of Forbush, who died just prior to publication of this last volume. Provenance: the John Crerar Library, with perforated library stamp on title pages and inoffensive small stamps on verso of plates. Otherwise good. Very uncommon outside the U.S. Nissen IVB, 328.
