Compiled and and written by fellow marine biologist and environmentalist Joel Walker Hedgpeth (1911-2006). "Hedgpeth himself may have been the model for the character, "Old Jay" in Steinbeck's novel, Sweet Thursday. Hedgpeth later was the editor of several editions of Ricketts' "Between Pacific Tides," a classic in marine biology, describing marine life along the coasts of California, Oregon and Washington. Hedgpeth edited more of Ricketts' writings in two volumes of "The Outer Shores" (Wikipedia). This work includes a review of Ricketts's Between Pacific Tides, and how it was received by professional biologists. Several chapters deal with the Sea of Cortez (Gulf of California). Inscribed in the top margin of the half-titles by the leading Conidae specialist of the second half of the 20th, and early years of the 21st century, Alan Jacob Kohn (1931-2022). First part lower margin a bit wavy, otherwise very good. Very uncommon, especially outside North America.
