Description: Nurnberg, Bauer & Raspe (Emil Küster), 1878-1881. Two volumes in two. 4to (27.0 x 21.5 cm). Two title pages; 390 pp; 112 lithographed plates. Original, near uniform printed (first: pictorial) boards. = Very well illustrated by the author, the German malacologist Wilhelm Kobelt (1840-1916). This is the only edition published - there is no coloured edition. One partly coloured copy is known (sold more han 30 years ago), but it seems that a former owner added the colouring. Plate 1 shows cephalopods, Plates 2-89 show gastropod shells, 90 to 112 bivalves, with on Plate 122 also a few brachiopods. Inscribed on both front free endpapers in an old hand, F. Reelick, and in the top margin of both title pages in another old, illegible hand, both dated 1895. Several ticks and other marginalia in light pencil. The binding worn. Internally much better: some light spotting and several plates toned, as usual, otherwise good. Nissen ZBI, 2241.
