Also useful for adjacent Balkan countries and Turkey. Franz Joseph Maria Werner (1867-1939) was an Austrian herpetologist and entomologist. "Werner was ... an avid explorer, especially of Southeast Europe, Asia Minor, northern Africa, and the islands of the eastern Mediterranean. Despite rough seas and difficult landings, he explored 45 of the Greek islands, the last of them (Thasos) at the age of 71 and less than a year before his death" (Adler). Published in the series, Zoological. original-Abhandlungen aus dem Gesamtgebiete der Zoologie, Heft 94 (hence two different titles). This is the unaltered high-quality reprint by the same publisher. Both editions are rare. Tiny number written in the top margin of the first title verso; otherwise an excellent, clean copy. Adler I, pp. 70-71. Not in Nissen.
