Spine with five raised bands; compartments with black lines and gilt title.Marbled endpapers; marbled edges. = The seldom-seen original work - especially rare outside the U.S.A. -, not to be confused with the 1959 reprint. The maps show the region around Lake Tahoe. Provenance: on the first blank verso a mineralogical bookplate of the French mineralogist and professor at the École des Mines, Claude Jean Guy Guillemin (1923-1994), who was a co-founder of the International Mineralogical Association. Some wear to the extremities, more rubbed in the upper-left corner of the front board; the largest map partly cut along the folds; a poor repair with brown paper strips on its verso leaving some toning.
