Original printed wrappers. = A thorough description of an enigmatic little owl from the high Alps by the Italian ethnographer and ornithologist Enrico "Henry" Hillyer Giglioni (1845-1909). The fine plate is by the famous Dutch bird illustrator Joseph Smit (1836-1923). Published together with nine other onithological papers, including one beautifully illustrated by H. Goodchild (chromolithograph of the gaudy Pitta reichenowi and P. longipennis), a full-colour plate with thrush eggs, another lithograph by the great Danish bird artist Henrik Grönvold (1858-1940), and some text illustrations. Also including an annotated list of birds seen and obtained in Peking [Beijing] by Captain H. A. Walton. Uncut. Some wear to spine ends; otherwise very good, clean, unmarked.
