Author: Happe, A. Title: Botanica Pharmaceutica exhibens plantas officinalis quarum nomina indispensatoris recentur, cum Iconibus… Plate 44. Convallaria maialis. [Lily-of-the-valley].
Description: Berolini (Berlin), 1788. Folio-size (35.8 x 22.2 cm) delicately hand-coloured loose lithograph of plants with printed caption. = The Pharmaceutica is a very rare work; it is seldom found complete and even individual plates of plants are rare. This plate of a lily-of-the-valley, a beautiful but highly poisonous plant, is in very good condition. "Lily-of-the-valley has been used in weddings and can be very expensive. Lily of the valley was featured in the bridal bouquet at the wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton. Lily-of-the-valley was also the flower chosen by Princess Grace of Monaco to be featured in her bridal bouquet" (Wikipedia). A weak, near vertical fold, otherwise very good, clean: no spotting, dents, tears or chips present. The colouring is precise and accurate. Nissen BBI, 784. Stafleu and Cowan (under 2834) "Not seen".
