Title: le Frelon. Journal d'Entomologie. I - II.
Description: Cahatauroux, Badel (for J. Desbrochers des Loges), 1891-1893. Two volumes in one. 8vo (22.0 x 14.0 cm). pp. [44, 124; 158, 36]. Early 20th-century red half cloth over marbled boards. Spine with gilt title. Marbled endpapers. = Rare start of an entomological periodical, ("The Hornet") which, despite its title, was devoted to beetles, and ran until 1909. Publisher, editor and main contributer was the French entomologist Jules Desbrochers des Loges (1836-1913). Pagination is a bit odd - both Volumes have a section with separate pagination, containing a monograph on a particular beetle family. Provenance: a small stamp, Ex Libris M[aurice] Antoine, and the handwritten number 1105 on the first blank recto; and another small stamp, G. Mazetier Rue de Bras, Caen, in the top margin of the p. 1, with Desbrocher's Introduction. Gaston Mazetier was a French entomologist and treasurer of the Société Linnéenne de Normandie. Rear joint split; scattered foxing, otherwise very good.
