Four papers in one. 4to (31.5 x 23.5 cm). 146 pp. (26; iv, 88, [i]; 27); 12 lithographed plates (1; 9 [numbered I-VII, IIIa and Va; some folded and tinted]; a few text engravings. Contemporary half calf over marbled boards. Spine with gilt bands and red morocco label with gilt title. = Two papers dealing with Silurian invertebrates, viz. extinct ostracod crustaceans, and sea scorpions (crustaceans), and two smaller papers, of which one on Cambrian fossils. Very well-illustrated and with many new taxa. The second and third paper are combined and were published in 1883. The pagination of each issue starts anew, but it is continuous for the two papers in the third issue. Published in the academy's Mémoires. The author, Friedrich Schmidt (1832-1908) was a Russian palaeontologist. Nissen gives an incomplete page numbering. Spine edges a bit rubbed; some light, a few text leaves and plates spotted; some marginal toning, otherwise very good. Nissen ZBI, 3723.
