Maurice Lugeon (1870-1953) was a Swiss geologist and member of the Royal Society. He was "...the pioneer of nappe tectonics. Named for Maurice Lugeon, the lugeon is a measure of transmissivity in rocks, determined by pressurized injection of water through a bore hole driven through the rock. One Lugeon (Lu) is equivalent to one litre of water per minute, injected into 1 metre of borehole at an injection pressure of 10 atmospheres"(Wikipedia). This work deals with a project of damming the upper Rhone river, and including nice views of the area. Published in the society's Mémoires, Série 4, volume 2(8). Front hinge starting near top end; paper remnant on front free endpaper verso; otherwise an excellent copy. Very uncommon, in particular in such an attractive state.
