Title: Consolidated report on the shell-fisheries in the Andamans during the years 1930-35 with extracts from earlier reports and two plates.
Description: Calcutta, Zoological Survey of India, 1939. Tall folio (33.1 x 21.5 cm). iv, 130 pp.; two maps. Quarter cloth over original stiff, printed boards. Spine with gilt title. = It deals in particular with the Trochus niloticus fisheries. On one page it is lamented that, despite the obligatory use of a gauge (shown in text figure 4), licensed Japanese fishermen collected enormous amounts of non-reproducing juveniles, and Japanese poachers operating from Singapore took even more, resulting in a collapse of the population. The maps show the Andaman Islands, and Nicobar Islands. A stamp of the American malacologist Richard Irwin Johnson (1925-2020) on the front board. Some wear to the boards, otherwise very good. Rare.
