Contemporary half calf over marbled boards. Spine with gilt lines and title. Marbled endpapers. = A scarce regional description on the metalliferous layers of Europe, with the rare supplement, dealing with, for instance, Algeria and Spain. See Ward and Carozzi for the supplement. Written by the French geologist and mineralogist Amédée Burat (1809-1883). He also published the important Traité du gisement et exploration des Mines Utiles (1855). Boards and spine cover detached, the spine cover incomplete; former private owner's name on the front free endpaper, this endpaper with some repairs; Franklin Institute library bookplate on front pastedown; their blindstamp in the title leaf margin and one other text leaf margin, otherwise a very good copy.
