Title: Electromagnetische verschijnselen in een stelsel dat zich met willekeurige snelheid, kleiner dan die van het licht, beweegt.
Description: Amsterdam, Koninklijke Akademie van Wetenschappen, 1904. 4to (25.9 x 18.1 cm). 19 pp. [numbered 980-1009]. Contemporary pebbled half cloth over marbled boards. Printed label on the spine. Floral-patterned endpapers. = This work by the Dutch Nobel laureate Hendrik Antoon Lorentz (1853-1928) contains an essential step in acknowledging that there is no "true", "material" mass. It became known after being translated into English (Electromagnetic phenomena in a system moving with any velocity smaller than that of light), Proceedings of the Academy of Science Amsterdam [1904] 6: 809-831), but this is the earliest version, published in Dutch. We offer the complete Verslag van de Gewone Vergaderingen der Wis- en Natuurkundige Afdeeling van 19 December 1903 tot 23 april 1904, Deel [Volume] 12(2), including several other contributions by Lorentz, and other Dutch Nobel laureates, including Zeeman and Van der Waals. Cancelled blind-stamp in lower margin of the title page, otherwise clean, unmarked. A very good copy.
