Original uniform quarter-cloth portfolios with printed title mounted on the front boards. = A very rare original - as published - copy, of an influential work by the German anatomist Rudolf Friedrich Johann Heinrich Wagner (1805-1864). "Wagner conducted research in a number of areas. His most important work concerned mammalian ova and sperm.... It remained for Wagner to discover (1835)...the nucleolus" (DSB). Portfolio straps partly lost; boards a bit soiled; text leaves somewhat foxed, mainly in the margins; plates - on thicker paper - generally cleaner. DSB XIV, pp. 113-114.
