Description: London, The Palaeontographical Society, 1850-1856. 4to (28.1 x 21.8 cm). 342 pp.; 31 lithographed plates with explanatory text leaves. Contemporary pebbled half morocco over gilt-bordered marbled boards, rich gilt spine with five raised bands floral vignettes and title. Marbled endpapers, top edge gilt. = The bivalves-part, in a nice, contemporary binding. It also contains an appendix with new information on additional bivalves, gastropods and a few cephalopods. Without the (much) later supplements. With the armorial bookplate of Thomas Baron Brassey, "Arduis saepe metu nunquam" (often in difficulties, never in fear) on the front pastedown. Boards rubbed, small piece of spine cover at foot missing; some - mostly light -spotting, mainly to explanatory leaves, also to a few plates. Some offsetting from the plates to the opposite explanatory leaves, otherwise good and in all a nice, attractively bound copy. Caprotti II, p. 226; Nissen ZBI, 4454.
