Uniform printed and laminated softcovers. = An important but seldom-seen monograph by the Slovenian zoologist (principally pedozoologist and herpetologist) Narcis Mršic (1951-1997), which is also useful in areas adjacent to the Balkan. The importance of earthworms in forming soil was already emphasized by Charles Darwin. Well-illustrated. Includes distribution maps. The author received his PhD in 1983 with a thesis on ecology, taxonomy and cenology of earthworms in two areas of the Gorenjska region and became an associate researcher with the Institute's zoological team. From 1988 to 1991, he was the Scientific Editor for the field of Natural Sciences of the Encyclopedia of Slovenia, and has served on the editorial boards of several international journals. Since 1992, he has been the head of the research team on the projects of floristic and faunistic research in Slovenia and neighboring regions, and for several months in 1994 he was also the Deputy Director of the Institute. In 1995 he was elected associate professor of ecology at the University of Ljubljana (cf. the Slovenian Wikipedia).
